Do Sea Turtles Dive to the Bottom of the Ocean?

While sea turtles are exceptional divers, they don’t typically venture to the very bottom of the ocean. How Much Pressure Can Sea Turtles Withstand Underwater

The deeper a sea turtle dives, the more intense the water pressure becomes. For leatherbacks, their flexible shell and specialized body structure allow them to endure significant pressure, far beyond what humans could tolerate without protective equipment. At 4,000 feet, the pressure is roughly 120 times greater than what we experience at sea level!

These adaptations enable them to survive in such challenging conditions, but other sea turtle species lack the same pressure tolerance. This is why green, loggerhead, and hawksbill turtles primarily stick to shallower depths.
